I'm so glad I didn't PAY for Project CARS.

I got it free with Gold a while ago and decided to start yesterday. Named my driver Evelyn English, because that’s my go-to fictional character name, and after the first karting event, I noticed that the results called her “English English.” So I started over. Evelyn English, nickname thingy “Eve of Destruction.” The name worked this time, but apparently I hit the character limit because of the spaces and now her Twitter handle thing is just “Eve of Destructi” and I’m done trying to fix it. I also have no idea why it let me choose my number (34) if I just have to use default liveries.

But anyway, yeah. I finished the first championship, and I’m wondering when I get to move on to the next series? This game does not do a good job of explaining all of its features.

... that and it’s just not what it pretends to be. A bit like Gran Turismo an arcade game that dreams to be a sim.

You’ll have to run through a few championships to advance.

Or, just do what I do, and skip the campaign, go straight to driving whatever you want in quick races. (Protip: If you’ve got the pack that has it, the TS040 is hilarious due to how they mapped the hybrid system to the throttle. Like 430 hp to the rear wheels at 90% throttle, 1000 hp to all wheels at 100% throttle.)

Yeah, I’m probably gonna just do that. I was looking forward to a new sim racer, but I hate go karts when I’m not driving them for real. So unstable when you’re driving with a controller instead of a wheel.

The way they’re going is to try to simulate an actual career progression - you start in 125 cc karts, go to 250 cc karts, then go into feeder series, so on, so on.

And, you’re playing with a controller? Maybe don’t drive the TS040, modulating the throttle will likely be difficult... (I play on PC with a wheel.)

Yeah, I get that. I just expected them to be at least a BIT more forgiving. Even after turning on all three assists, I just slightly touch the curb or an opponent and I’m into the wall instantly.

Just downloaded this!

I really only play Forza, but figured I’d try because it was free.

Still forming my decision. Better tracks but less cars. I like how it feels with all the assists off though. It’s harder than Forza, way more sensitive with the controller.

I feel like it’s made for use with a wheel, but I play too casually to invest in a setup like that.

I don’t know. I tried Project Cars on an Eleetus simulator , which admittedly enhances the experience a great deal. Despite the wide selection of awesome cars available, I chose a stock Scion FR-S to compare its realism to my Subaru BRZ, which I actually have driven on tracks a few times. Turn the driver assists off, and everything I learned from my BRZ on the track carried right over to the simulated FR-S. I even made some intentional “mistakes,” like too much throttle on corner exit, and the car nearly spun as a result just like it should have. My recovery almost worked, except for that pesky wall in the way. But at least I didn’t have to spend money to fix bodywork. :)

You do a local championship, a regional championship, and then a world championship (some series only have 2 longer championships) before the year ends.

At least for you the game lets you enter your name. It censors my last name.

Good thing I didn’t go with my first choice, Lars McButtpoop.
